Looks like the "source" HP on some persistent effects like Icy Terrain isn't the Control Wizard's HP, but some bugged value. Perhaps the Icy Terrain has 0 out of 0 HP. Whatever the value, when those values get sent to the function that calculates the boost, it's causing massive damage boosts.

Well, they're entities. Other entities like mailboxes and salvage anvils can probably also be queried for HP values. That's not necessarily bad coding.

In this case, the person who wrote the boost calculation function didn't confirm that the HP values were actually coming from the player and didn't check to see if the HP values were within a good range. Overconfident and sloppy.

I dont think its bad coding at all (that a power can have hp). I just should not have been surprised by it. I remember in League some abilities were coded as minions which led to less destructive but funnier interactions.

But how is this not getting caught by Q&A. One of the most obvious steps would be to try out all damaging abilities with the set, especially the ones that are frequently used.

Because they refuse to allow users to claim and use items.. same with sigs.

WHY do they even have a preview for testing!???????

Should bring the server down for it, but that would require they know where the bug is, which they may not.

They should 100% close server right now.. but they will hem and haw probably for a few hours about it.. then point fingers probably .. then finally get back to us with a update .

I would think they could deactivate this power at least for the time being.

Do you really blame them for trying to not let the cat out of the bag worse?

I mean, I know this is typical, that the cleanup crew works overtime when something really massively broken starts going public, but what else are they supposed to do? Say, "ok yeah guys, have a field day with it until we can make a patch"?

(Besides test sufficiently that it never happened in the first place, I mean.)

Edit: Ok, maybe you missed Zengiah saying that Andy had contacted him for more info about how to replicate. They are working on it. But their process for working on it includes a certain amount of damage control/containment.

Server is still up, people sell belts, exploit the heck out of the bug.

there wont be a rollback or bans or anything.again.

thats not damage controll

Do you honestly expect bans? That one is not an exploit, its a bug. Peiople have been using bugs in video games for ages

They will fix it, and then its done. The actual problem here is how it slipped through their Q&A

How is it even possible to miss this interaction? :shock:

Icy Terrain is one (if not the) most used encounters on a CW, how you can miss something as simple as this is beyond my understanding.

At the very least you equip the set on all classes, try all encounters on a variety of objects/enemies and see what happens before putting it in a live environment...

I am deeply unsympathetic to anyone who buys a set for millions of AD today because they want to deal ONE BILLION DAMAGE and gets upset because it gets fixed tout suite.

As for sellers, this one doesn't trigger my sense of ethics. The items exist and are legitimately sellable. Demand for equipment comes and goes, and if demand is high, you sell. It's not enormously different to me charging ludicrous amounts of money for relatively common crafting materials when masterwork crafting launched, because some people wanted to be FIRST and were willing to throw buckets of AD at it.
